Working with Luster, China Paint, and Underglaze
Workshop details:
Visiting artist Joan Takayama-Ogawa will lead an in-depth workshop looking at color theory on ceramics. She will demonstrate how to create vibrant, jewel-like surfaces using gold luster, china paints, and underglazes. Students will have a chance to engage with the various techniques. Workshop will include live demonstrations, slide presentations, and time to practice the methods with the artists guidance.

Participants: Open to all levels. Wheel throwers and hand-builders welcome! Participants must come prepared with 2-3 completely finished (glaze fired) pieces (in a glossy/light finish), as well a selection of fine tipped, quality, brushes for detail work. All other materials will be provided.
Joan Takayama-Ogawa has an extensive career as a ceramist and ceramic educator. She currently works as a professor in the Department of Product Design at Otis College of Art.
Her work has been featured around the world, is currently in multiple permanent exhibits in major museums, has been published in over 30 books and magazines.
